Build Your Own Website with WordPress Workshop

Because of the interactive nature of the workshop, space is very limited. First come, first served.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You want to build a website for your freelance business.
  • You have never heard of WordPress, or if you have, you only know the basics.
  • You want to invest more time than money into a website.

Prerequisites

  • Access to a laptop or desktop computer before, during and after the workshop. This will not work with a temporarily borrowed computer or a phone. Most tablets won't work either.
  • A steady internet connection with your laptop/desktop during the workshop.
  • You can attend the entire 4-hour workshop live.
  • An hour or two preparing before the workshop. (If you don't, you won't really benefit from the workshop.)
  • The budget for registering a domain and buying hosting. In the first year, this is typically $50-100, thereafter $100-200/year.

If all of the above apply, this workshop is for you! No prior knowledge of WordPress or other prerequisites aside from the above required. We’ll start (almost) from scratch and will build a basic website together, which you can build upon afterwards.

Why WordPress and not any of the other options, such as Wix or SquareSpace?

Because WordPress is much more flexible than other options. If you decide to change or add a special feature or design element later, this is much easier to do with WordPress. There’s a reason why WordPress powers over 40% of all websites worldwide.

Worst case scenario?

You learn the basics of WordPress, even if you never implement your own website (see below).

Workshop Contents and Features

Preparation

Upon signing up, I'll send you a workbook accompanied. You will have to spend some time to sketch a rudimentary outline of your future website and pick a suitable theme (I'll explain what a theme is, not to worry).

This preparation is essential, otherwise you will not be able to benefit from the interactive portion of the workshop!

First Half: Introduction to WordPress

In the first half of the workshop, we'll go through how WordPress works for visitors on the front end and for website owners on the back end. I'll explain how Elementor works, an addition for WordPress that makes designing much easier. Don't worry if you don't understand all the terminology in these boxes here, I'll explain everything during the workshop.

Second Half: Interactive, live workshop

In the second half of the workshop, you will install a theme and start implementing your very own website on my web server. We'll fix problems that arise live during the workshop. At the end, you will have a very good starting point to finalize your website. Optionally, you can add another language to your site as well.

60 Days Access to Recording and Additional Reference Material

You can watch the recording as many times as you want for 60 days afterwards. I'll give you reference materials, such as where to source (free) pictures etc.

45 Days to Set Up Your Domain and Transfer the Site You Created

You pick your own domain name and then we'll transfer the site to your own hosting. If you don't transfer the site, your work during the workshop will be deleted from my server after 45 days for space reasons.
